Chevaan Daniel becomes first Sri Lankan elected Vice President of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union

Chevaan Daniel, Group Director of the Capital Maharaja Group, was elected unopposed as Vice President of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU), becoming the first Sri Lankan to hold the office since the Union was founded in 1964.

The election took place at the ABU’s 63rd General Assembly in Colombo, hosted by the Maharaja Media Network. It was the first time Sri Lanka had hosted the General Assembly. Chevaan Daniel was nominated by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, and his nomination was seconded by Japan’s public broadcaster, NHK.

The ABU brings together broadcasters from across the Asia-Pacific region and beyond to advance cooperation, professional standards and innovation in broadcasting. Daniel’s election is a milestone for Sri Lanka’s broadcasting industry and recognises its place in the international media community.

The Capital Maharaja Group congratulates Chevaan Daniel and wishes him every success in his new role.
