The Capital Maharaja Group (CMG), one of Sri Lanka’s largest privately-owned conglomerates, has announced the appointment of Ravi Gamage as Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) and member of the Senior Leadership Team.
Gamage’s career at CMG is a remarkable story of growth within the Group — reflecting the journeys of many of its top leaders. He began as a News Anchor and News Producer with Newsfirst, later became Head of Yes FM and MTV News, then served as Programming Head of Channel One MTV, before transitioning to HR. Rising through the ranks from Group Human Resources Manager to General Manager – Group Human Resources, he now takes on the top HR role as CHRO.
This trajectory underscores CMG’s long-standing culture of developing leaders from within — nurturing talent from the ground up and enabling them to take on the highest levels of responsibility. Today, Gamage leads the HR function across CMG’s 24 subsidiaries, spanning industries from manufacturing and FMCG to media, services, and hospitality.
In addition to his professional credentials, including a Master’s in Human Resources Management, Gamage is recognized by colleagues as a people-centric leader, respected and admired across the Group. He is also a recipient of the prestigious Executive of the Year (EOTY) Award, which honored his impact on HR strategy and employee experience.
Reflecting on his appointment, Gamage said:
“My own journey reflects what CMG has always stood for —giving people opportunities to grow, reinvent themselves, and thrive across industries. I’ve been fortunate to move from the newsroom to radio, television, and now HR, and I’m proud that many of my colleagues across the Group have similar stories. At CMG, your first job is never your last — it’s the beginning of something much bigger.”
Under the leadership of Chairman/Managing Director Sashi Rajamahendran and Group CEO Suresh Srinivasan, CMG is reshaping its people and culture agenda. With its centenary year approaching in 2030, the Group is investing in digitalization, leadership development, engagement, and wellness, ensuring that its people remain at the heart of its growth story.
